There is a network of services and support programs to assistance people living with a mental illness and their carers- it’s just a matter of knowing where to start looking.
NARRATOR: Although mental health services are scarce in some areas, Society members need to have an understanding of what assistance is available in their local area. The Society’s website lists many of these services but we would encourage members and volunteers to also make contact with their area health services to establish what exists locally. That may include General Practitioners, social, recreation and rehabilitation clubs, vocational training, as well as clinical services. Only when we have this knowledge will we be in a position to give maximum support and assistance. We also encourage members to get involved in any Society courses offered and if possible, attend the excellent programs offered by Mental Health First Aid.
